RSS Content for your website

How to syndicate other's RSS content for your website to improve relevancy and search engine placing

Are you looking for fresh relevant content for your web site, by including information syndicated by others using RSS feeds?

Syndicate Content for your Website

This can help you keep your website updated automatically with high quality relevant content, helping your site visitors and improving the ranking of your site on the search engines.

Please see the related page Blogs and RSS Feeds for information on:

  • Viewing information and entertainment sourced by others, published on blogs (weblogs) and syndicated via RSS feeds and aggregators,or
  • Publishing your own blog or website and syndicating it to others by providing an RSS feed?

Benefits

Taking RSS content feeds from other websites and using them to update your own pages provides two benefits:

  • Fresh relevant content for your website visitors
  • A higher search engine ranking, due to the changing content (see article by Gecko).

Software Tools

And can be done in a couple of hours using software such as:

  • Carp - Caching RSS Parser - free cut down version or $29.97 full version software, used on my sites.
  • Express RSS, professionally packaged and promissing ease of use, but costs $67 and does not seem to do anything that Carp does not.
  • RSS Equalizer at $97 is another glossy package, that claims in addition to provide built-in keyword tracking.

See below for a syndicated content example on this site, done in 30 minutes using Carp, including having to rename all the index.htm links to index.php.

Note: do NOT use Javascripts for displaying syndicated content, since the search engines will not be able to read that content and so you will lose many of the benefits.

Content Sources

Use the same search engines and their blog based equivalents that you would normally use.

Be sure to only choose high quality feeds that are relevant to your site's target audience and keywords.
